Getting Started

What is RiC?

Records in Contexts (RiC) is the international standard for archival description developed by the International Council on Archives (ICA). It replaces the traditional standards (ISAD(G), ISAAR(CPF), ISDF, ISDIAH) with a unified, graph-based model.

RiC in Heratio

Heratio is the operational platform where RiC capabilities are a first-class mode. Every major entity page supports both a traditional archival view and a RiC contextual view:

  • Richer relationships: Model complex connections between records, creators, and subjects
  • Linked data: Publish archival data as RDF for interoperability
  • Graph visualization: See relationships visually in the RiC Explorer
  • SPARQL queries: Advanced search across the entire archival graph

Quick Start

  1. Visit heratio.theahg.co.za
  2. Open the RiC Explorer to visualize relationships
  3. Use the view toggle on any entity page to switch between Heratio View and RiC View
  4. Use semantic search to query across the archival graph
  5. Access the SPARQL endpoint for advanced linked-data queries
